Born in 1955, Dave Stevens is best known for his amazing 80s character The Rocketeer. I absolutely loved that book and often tried to imitate Stevens' realistic-cartoony art style when I was a high schooler. The comic also brought back to the limelight 40s and 50s pin-up queen, Betty Page. Stevens was instrumental in making sure that Ms. Page received some financial benefit from the use of her image on everything from t-shirts to magnets. He had been struggling with leukemia for the past few years and close friends stated that it had taken a toll on him and he had been in a lot of pain. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He was an amazing creator.
