And a few recent hauls I haven't found a place for yet...
Also, you say you're a big Spawn fan....a month or two ago, i noticed a guy who bought all the Spawn back issues Glenn had, for a 1.50 each. He spent like, 60-70 dollars i think, so i thought that may have been you.
I have all the Spawn issues so that wasn't me... but ya know, looking at your profile pic I think I was the guy that saved your seat at the Wolverine midnight showing recently when you went out to get a smoke. I sat between Glenn and James? (not sure of his name..has a beard and works on Thursdays.)
I don't think I've ever met you, to the best of my recollection. I don't know I've ever been to the west store, unless Castleton or the downtown branch count. And, I don't think I know Glenn personally either.
I hope I'm not ostracized here, but I get my pull-and-holds through Comic Carnival. When I first moved down here from Chicago, about 2 1/2 years ago, I checked out both chains and the guys at DTC: Castleton seemed really snobby and didn't seem to care whether or not they got my business. However, I went back there randomly a month ago, for card boxes if I remember correctly, and they had a new guy working there, or at least a guy I had never seen. I don't know his name, but he reminds of Grant Morrison. He was awesome. He even let me see their copy of X-men issue 10 and 27. Then when I came back a few weeks later to buy them he cut me a sweet deal. So, I've started shopping there recently.
As for free comic day, CC had my wife come in and show off her art work, so I wasn't at DTC that day. Sorry for being so long winded. But, it would be cool to meet you guys.
If the guy has a shaved head, that is probably Pete. He's a great guy! He used to run the Westside store but now works the Castleton one. Very nice guy and a great addition to the DTC staff for sure. He's been with them for years.
I only go to Comic Carnival from time to time, DTC is where it is at. CC usually has a lot higher prices, and special ordering there is a joke. The staff there also always acts like you are there to shoplift and watch you constantly. haha, at least that's the feeling I get.
Haha, yeah, that had to be me at the Wolverine Midnight showing. I defnitley had a good time that night for sure. and those people were trying to take our seats constantly! ahah.
Yeah, Comic Carnival, is....bleh. THEY CHARGE NINE DOLLARS FOR BOARDS! NINE DOLLARS! They are MUCH more expensive than DTC. They defnitley watch for shoplifters at the 38th street store, I mean, look at the location...
But really, I only go to comic carnival when im forced to. I dont have Paypal so i dont order online much at all. Glenn can usually get me what im looking for, but rarely do i have to go Comic Carnical and get raped by their prices.
I bought boards and plastic there once when DTC West was out of Current Size Boards.....and ill wait next time for DTC to get them, nearly 20 dollars for both, when i pay 12 at DTC. blah.
I really didn't mean to turn this into a pissing contest between DTC and CC. I had an initially bad experience with DTC at first, but the new guy (new to me anyway) has been pretty cool. I do plan on purchasing more from DTC in the future.
However, when it comes to pull-and-hold, it's just as easy to stay with CC than to switch to DTC. I'm willing to bet they both have the same exact prices on new issues. I think both chains are great, and I look forward to forking over more money to DTC in the days to come.
Well, the stores dont control prices of new issues. On new issues, the barcodes get scanned, so they can be counted im guessing.
The back issues in Comic Carnival's stock are just absurdly priced some of the time. Some ones are alrite priced, but damn, i could hardly find anything under 4 dollars an issue today at the west CC store. The cheapest icould find anything in their back issues was 3.25.
I was just expressing my frustration with dollar issues, that are priced 4. 25 and such. I heard the name Comic Carnival come up, and i felt the need to express my distaste for their prices. Absurd to the point, that their cashier on Fridays pretty much agreed with me and has cut me deals a few times, considering i buy in bulk most of the time.
Weird, it wouldn't let me to your (stutterinjake) on your last post.
I can't comment on much in the way of back issues. The only back issues I buy are super old X-men. In that respect, CC has always been fair. I picked up my issue 94 from them for 500, which considering the condition was about a 50 to 100 break on the price. There have been a few other older X-men back issues that I've gotten some good deals on too. I've had the same great price experience on old X-men at DTC as well. The guy who I think looks like Grant Morrison (Pete apparently) cut 40 bucks off my total price when I bought X-men 10 and 27 together.
Like I said, both chains seem just fine. It's just easier to keep my pull and hold with CC since new issues are the same no matter who you go to. The only thing that could really get me to move my pull-and-hold to DTC is if they would pull-and-hold new X-men variants for me. Both chains seem competitive on the old X-men issues. I concede on the bags and boards. They are a little cheaper at DTC. Also, DTC carries a larger selection of hobby storage products, imho. I like all the variety of card boxes they carry.
